The Youth Problem (An adult problem) and the Economy
It is not uncommon to hear adults complain about the behavior of youth ranging anywhere from sagging pants to drug use and sales. I think most will agree that the issue of youth and drugs is a serious problem that needs to be addressed; where I disagree is the method.
The primary method for dealing with this issue is arrest and incarceration resulting in felony records that follow them long after their release. The result is a permanent under class that will have difficulty in obtaining employment. Fueling a criminal justice bureaucracy and ever growing prison industrial complex.
The current state is by know means an accident, it is the combination of planning of profiteers, the ignorance of those subjected and wholesale denial.
The government connection
Young people do not import tons of cocaine or heroin into the country. The CIA has been caught on more than one occasion trafficking in drugs. The Iran-Contra scandal linked the Reagan administration to the crack epidemic via Nicaraguan counterparts. If you get the idea it is a Republican issue let me assure you it is not, it is bipartisan. President Clinton has been linked to drugs as Arkansas Governor via Mena airport.
Personal responsibility or the chickens coming home to roost.
Most Americans realize that their government is most likely responsible for the large amount of drugs that are imported into the U.S. When this hypocrisy is pointed to as a cause for youth participation in drugs the usual response is that although enticed or corrupted by a multibillion dollar government operation, these young people know right from wrong. This knowledge of right and wrong should be enough therefore if they violate the law they must suffer the consequences. Of course this theory gives no significance to the fact that institution responsible for the circumstances sits in judgment while also profiting from their incarceration.
The economy connection
We elect the same politicians over and over again despite this fact we do not expect anything different and they generally do not disappoint. Just as drugs do not suddenly appear jobs do not suddenly disappear; it is a planned process in either case. I ask you if young people are expected to suffer the consequences of their behavior shouldn’t adults expect the same? Sell drugs knowing the consequences pay the price. Allow the government to function without restraint and suffer the consequences. We should know an entity that would engage in the destruction of our youth visa vie drugs wasn’t going to simply stop there. It has no boundaries in terms of behavior/abuse. The erosion of the economy, the moving of jobs abroad, the de-industrialization of the country is only in keeping with this behavior. Why complain when you knew the consequences and chose to allow your government to operate unchecked? Let me see if I understand this correctly, you thought your government would import drugs profiting by harming young people and profit again by incarcerating them and do no other harm, Really?
The same disregard for young people has now come to roost in terms of the economy for adults. Though unpleasant the results as natural as sunrise.
